Summer Time Reading

A friend of mine was concerned what her teens were reading and asked my opinion on some titles. Since my nose is always in a book, I thought I would blog about my reading this year. Hopefully, you will pick up a book and read.

My Favorites

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova

A missing father causes a daughter to search through old letters for clues to his whereabouts. This search leads her throughout the world but mostly in vampire territory. The story is so intense that I couldn't put it down. I am dying to reread it, however it has been past around my family. This is 100 time better than any Twilight book.

The Uglies, The Pretties, The Specials and The Extras By Scott Westerfeld series

Fast forward to a time of hover boards and a perfect world where everyone must get plastic surgery when they turn sixteen. Everyone anxiously awaits the day they become pretty. However, Tally Youngblood likes herself the way she is. Escape with her out of the plastic world and into a world of outcast where they hide from authorities who are demanding they become pretty.

Magyk --Septimus Heap- Series 4 volumes
Angie Sage

Enter into a time of princess and dragons, witches and warlocks where no one is safe. Magyk ,along with the other books, is exciting and fun to read. Feel free to read it to your elementary children or just for yourself. I really enjoyed these books. Move over Harry Potter, Septimus Heap is on his way.

Prejudice By Jane Austin

North Anger Abby by Jane Austin

After the scene is set, the books become infatuating. Austin has a wit in her writing that you cannot find by any other author . They are not Nickolas Sparks sappy romance novels but a love story hidden behind clever characters and excellent writing,.

Have you ever googled your name???

THAT IS NOT ME

My husband told me to google his brother's name to see how published he was. He was right. My brother in law is well known in the field he is in. ( As you can tell...I don't even know what to call it.)

So I googled Bryan and then my self.

Here is what I learned About the Hollie *'s out there.

NOT ME #1 --Hollie and Christy have been together for seven years, own a home in *** are raising two kids. So they were disappointed last fall when voters joined the bandwagon of states that ban same-sex marriage and civil unions.

NOT ME #2 --Delivering a baby in Ecuador at a moment’s notice is but one of many surprisingly bold volunteer tasks Hollie * has performed.

Jobs that I do not hold...

Helicopter Nurse

Marathon Runner ... in many races- in many cities

Restate Agent

Hotel owner

Writer

However.. I did find two article either mentioning my name or actually quoting me... Thanks to my girlfriend who did PR with me in college and was actually published. ( However, I don't remember saying anything.)

Oh Funny memories

On my recipe blog I posted a new BBQ recipe. This recipe is so so good. However, I have to tell the story behind it.

My father in law was a grill enthusiast. If it could be cooked on a grilled he'd try it. We had heard about his famous Weber sauce and how great it was and he was making ribs that weekend for us. He grilled the ribs and the aroma filled the house...almost time to taste the top secret sauce. He gets out a mason jar that he had filled with the sauce and began smothering the ribs in it.
We sat down to devour this meal with eager anticipation. Bryan tried it first. To my surprise Bryan had a blank look on his face. He said to his dad, " Dad I think you just put salsa all over the ribs." Yes it was salsa. To this day we laugh about it.

Sophie became obsessed with Christy after she did Sophie's hair and nails.
We couldn't belong to a better family. My aunt and uncle took such great care of us. We really didn't even leave their house...except for a small shopping spree. ( I really mean small, I only spent 15$ of our tax return !!!)
Even a "Stay at home" mom needs a break....
